New! Windfall Lumber Tables and Counters

Posted on March 1, 2016 by Jared

The Eco Floor Store is very excited to be the distributor of Windfall Lumber wood surfaces in the Fraser Valley. Windfall Lumber’s collection of reclaimed, salvaged and FSC-certified architectural wood products include table tops, countertops, architectural wall panels and floors.

Windfall Lumber is a Washington-based design and manufacturing firm that uses only sustainably harvested and reclaimed wood from the Pacific Northwest to create one-of-a-kind surfaces for residential and commercial spaces. In all of their products, their passion for wood is evident; each surface is designed to showcase the inherent natural beauty of the wood.

With a large selection of table and countertops, including live-edge, end grain, side grain and full planks, their custom furniture is built with careful attention to detail. Custom inlay metalwork, waterfall legs and telephone phone edging are all available, in addition to a large selection of metal table bases. And all of it is stunning!

Here are a few examples of some of their products. Additional photos are available on their website and samples are on display at our design showroom in Surrey.

Custom Built Table Top

Posted on July 2, 2015 by Jared

Dining room tables are statement pieces. Finding that perfect dining table that’s has the right size and style is often a difficult task.

One of our clients was looking for a mock distressed wood dining room table. When she couldn’t find exactly what she wanted in stores, she came to us. Together, we designed her ideal table top and then we hand-built the new piece.

The table is made of biscuit joined pine planks with recessed cross beams on the bottom for stability and strength. To achieve the distressed look, we used several techniques in many stages, including wire brushing, knot filling, edge chiseling and spot charring. All of the grooves are filled with a dark filler, then the entire table is stained in ebony and coated with two coats of food safe polyutherane.

The table top measures 43″ wide by 72″ long. Here are some before and after photos:

Industrial Cart Makeover

Posted on May 14, 2015 by Jared

These two industrial carts were headed to the landfill… when The Eco Floor Store came to the rescue! Ok, it wasn’t that dramatic, but it was that exciting. 😉

Originally built in the 1940’s out of old railway pieces, these industrial carts were used to transport wood in a sawmill in Northern BC. And now, they’re ready for your coffee cup, favourite magazine and feet.

Unfortunately, we were unable to salvage any of the old wood (rotted would be an understatement), but we did use recycled pallets for the new table top. All of the metal components were sandblasted to remove the years of rust. And we added some new steel brackets to each corner to strengthen the table (for those families who have toddlers who can’t stay off the coffee table!).

To create the old worn look, we used a torch to gently burn the wood. We then painted the entire coffee table with an old american colonial stain and added some black accents for a little extra “wear and tear” look. The third step was a light coating of charcoal grey paint and then finished off with two coats of water based polyurethane paint.
