Canada House in London is the High Commission’s new home that consolidates Canada’s diplomatic activity in the UK in a single, central location on Trafalgar Square. International design and build firm Stantec made sure to specify building materials made in Canada for the building’s renovation.

Top 5 Eco-Friendly Resolutions

Posted on January 5, 2015 by Jared

While New Year’s resolutions are often focused on self-improvement, that doesn’t mean you can’t include one or two resolutions to help our environment. Small changes to your lifestyle can have a huge impact on our planet. Here are our top five eco-friendly resolutions:

Eco-Friendly Resolution #1: Eat Less Meat

Last year, singer-songwriter and musician Moby wrote a powerful article for the Huffington Post entitled “Save the Humans“. The article outlines how animal agriculture is harming our environment by producing more greenhouse gases than all vehicles on the planet, using excessive amounts of water and polluting our lakes and groundwater. By eating less meat, even if it’s only once a week, you’re helping our environment.

Eco-Friendly Resolution #2: Recycle, Recycle, Recycle!

Driving through the neighbourhood on garbage day is disheartening. We would love to see less garbage cans and more recycle bins on sidewalks. Many of our surfaces are made from recycled post-consumer products. It pays off to recycle! Find out what goes in your recycle in here.

Eco-Friendly Resolution #3: Eat Local

This year, why not make it a resolution to attend more farmers’ markets and eat local food. You’ll be supporting local small businesses and helping our planet too. Check out the BC Association of Farmers’ Markets for locations and dates (and yes, there are Winter Farmers’ Markets!).

Eco-Friendly Resolution #4: Turn Off the Lights

It doesn’t get any easier: turn off the lights when you’re not in the room and when you’re out. BC Hydro has a great list of other ways you can save energy in your home (and save money too!), so if you already turn off unnecessary lights, check out what other ways you can make our future greener.

Eco-Friendly Resolution #5: Say No to Green Lawns

This summer, say no to green lawns! Let your lawn go yellow and save our precious water. Don’t worry, your lawn will go green again in the fall when the rains return (and they always do in BC!). Here are some other ways to garden naturally.
