Design Ideas for Wall Surfaces

Force of Nature by BYU Design

Dinner by Design is a very cool exhibit at IDSwest that involves three dimensional dining experiences by local and international designers.

We supplied shou-sugi-ban, or charred, wood siding for Bob’s Your Uncle Design‘s dining space. Wow! We love the space (shown in photo above). Entitled “Force of Nature” the powerful dining room was dramatic and sophisticated.

Our Top Five at IDSwest 2014: from Fashion to Furniture

There’s always so much to see at IDSwest; good thing we’re there for many days so we get the chance to see it all!

Our top five this year is a varied list that includes LED lighting, fashion accessories, pet homes, wine storage and custom furniture – all of it equally inspiring!

In the Works: Canada House in London and St. John’s College in Vancouver

We’ve been busy working on some very cool projects, locally and internationally!

The first is the revitalization of Canada House in London, United Kingdom. Designed by Stantec, Canada House is the High Commission’s new home that will consolidate Canada’s diplomatic activity in the UK in a single, central location on Trafalgar Square.

We supplied our exclusive Ollitecture architectural panels for the rounded bar in the in-house cafe. Made in Vancouver from upcycled cutoffs of skateboards, the colourful 1.5″ x 6″ wall tiles will be installed vertically. We can’t wait to see the install!

Another exciting project is the renovation of St. John’s College, a graduate residential college at the University of British Columbia. Working with the boutique design firm 34F Design Inc, we supplied our reclaimed boat wood wall tiles. The 13.5″ x 13.5″ wall tiles will be used to create custom headboards in each of the 14 units.

Stay tuned for photos from both completed projects!

We’re Off to China

Metropolitan Hardwood Floors invited us to China to tour their manufacturing facilities. We couldn’t turn down the opportunity to check out how one of our products is made, so we’re off to China!

One of our favourite exhibits at the annual IDSwest is Monogram® Dinner by Design. The creative exhibit is a three dimensional dining installation by local and international interior designers.

We had the opportunity to check out the exhibit on its opening night at the very chic Cocktail Art evening. Wow – the spaces were wonderful! Some were dark, others cheery. Some dining rooms were functional, others playful. It’s definitely worth the click to browse through all the images of the dining spaces!

And of course our favourite dining space was the one designed by BYU Design. We supplied shou-sugi-ban, or charred, wood siding for the space. We absolutely love the installation: vertical with mixed heights.

Wow – what a weekend! The 10th annual Interior Design Show West was as spectacular as expected with hundreds of exhibitors and thousands of design ideas and products.

We had a blast chatting with everyone who came by our booth. We always enjoy talking about upcoming design projects – from small one space renovations to huge new builds. There’s definitely lots happening in and around Vancouver!

Every year, we look forward to walking the show and taking a look at all of the other exhibitors. Here are our top five that caught our eye from this year’s inspiring IDSwest:

Straight Line Designs

We have a soft spot for everything related to four-legged fur babies. And these super adorable pet campers made us smile every time we walked by them! Based in Vancouver, this one-of-a-kind design studio makes a wide variety of must-have (for people and pets!) furniture and objects.

Cerno Group

Cerno designs and manufactures modern LED light fixtures. We love the use of the solid walnut wood in many of their simple and elegant designs.

Sophisticated, stylish and eco-friendly! These little wooden bow ties by BÖ are handcrafted in Vancouver from reclaimed and freed raw materials.

We spotted in the always inspiring Studio North at IDSwest. More wood, more gorgeous!

+ And you’ll love all of their culinary pieces for your home

Vin de Garde

The Prototype exhibit at IDSwest is a twice-juried platform featuring products not currently in production. Vin de Garde’s new product – MAGASIN – allows wine collectors to store their wine in three different orientations. The system has been designed to be a versatile and expandable assembly that collectors can purchase to suit their desired capacity.

Thank you to IDSwest for another wonderful week celebrating everything interior design in Vancouver. We’re already looking forward to next year!
