Reclaimed Boat Wood Wall Tiles

Posted on May 23, 2013 by Jared

If you’ve ever visited any of the countries in South East Asia, you probably have dozens of photos of the many colourful wooden fishing boats that decorate the shores and the waters.

Have you ever wondered what happens to the boats when they’re too old to fix? We found an innovative company who takes the wood from retired fishing boats and turns them into beautiful eco-friendly wall tiles.

The wood tiles are salvaged from a variety of exotic wood species, including Shorea, Mesua Ferrea and Queensland’s Wood. They are primed with a durable low VOC finish that makes them great for both indoor and outdoor spaces. The wood tiles contribute to LEED® credits.

IDSwest Vancouver 2013

IDSwest is by far our favourite event of the year. Last year was an absolute blast and this year is shaping up to be even better! Stay tuned for more info.

More Than Eco-Friendly

“We spend over 90 percent of our lives indoors. Buildings either can be the cause of illness or consciously designed and built in ways that contribute to better health.”

All of our surfaces are environmentally friendly. But did you know that also means that all of our surfaces are safe to breathe?

It’s important to go beyond the surface. When selecting a flooring material or wall covering, make sure to find out if it’s made with toxic chemicals, like formaldehyde, lead or other heavy metals, carcinogenic phthalates and so on (the list of toxic chemicals in flooring products is SCARY!).

In this article on, the author states that building professionals have an opportunity to improve our health by selecting safe building materials for their projects. We couldn’t agree more!

It took a little convincing, but we’re now on Facebook. Join us as we showcase some of our favourite projects, talk about sustainable building, share local discoveries and more!

Don’t be shy to let us know what you’d like to see in your news feed. (It is YOUR news feed after all!).

The Perfect Excuse

Cork Reharvest Logo

Help keep corks out of the landfill by bringing them to our showroom!

We’re proud to support the Cork Reharvest recycling program, a North American recycling initiative that recycles used cork. With the help of our clients, we’ve already filled up one DropBox and we’re well on our way to filling up a second!

So what are you waiting for? Drink up! (As if you needed an excuse to open up that bottle of wine…) 😉
